Fair Trade
Amharic Kids works with individual artisans and NGOs operating job creation projects to source fair trade handicrafts. One project we work with employees HIV+ women to make beautiful coffee bean jewelry. Another project trains and employees disabled Ethiopians to make cards, wooden puzzles, and a memory game. One man started a business combining banana, pineapple, and teff fibers with recycled paper to make handmade textured stationary: cards, frames, bookmarkers, and memo pads. It is a joy to work with these folks and be part of the chain that empowers and gives a financial livelihood to families. Your purchase of these products finishes the circle!
We also work with Ethiopian entrepreneurs in North American/Europe who have good idea’s and have produced products that promote Ethiopia. These ambitious entrepreneurs partner with Amharic Kids to reach a much greater audience online. For example Genet, developed the Ethiopian soccer ball among other products, had them produced and we have sold hundreds of her soccer balls.
